Where Airlines dominate capacity at EMEA Airports

Continuing the series developed in association with Blue Swan Daily, our fourth instalment considers the look at the airports in Europe, Middle East and Africa which are most and least dominated by a single airline.
Among the Top 100 airports located in this region Manchester Airport, Palma de Mallorca Airport and Moscow Domodedovo Airport are those where the largest airline has the smallest share of overall capacity. Perhaps surprisingly, some of the main airports serving Europe’s capital cities – Madrid, Lisbon, Copenhagen and Stockholm - are also relatively free of airline domination.
In contrast, almost 90% of all airline seats at Moscow Sheremetyevo Airport are operated by Aeroflot Russian Airlines, while at Doha and Abu Dhabi the dominant airline operates around four in every five seats or more.
At some major airports the disruptive influence of low cost carriers has contributed to the lack of domination by legacy carriers although as the low cost carrier market matures, there are also airports, such as Istanbul’s Sabiha Gokcen and London Stansted, where the dominant airline is itself a low cost carrier.
