Latest aviation figures are out! What will happen now that Uganda Airlines has grounded? Watch out for the US weather forecasts - it is going to be a tricky few days
It's financial results week for Europe’s majors, with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines-Air France already having reported a decent, if not spectacular, set of results at the end of last week. Much of the AF-KL story is about increasing their share in SAS and taking a very small share in WestJet, but we couldn’t help but notice a 50% plus increase in ancillary revenues in the last two years; that’s impressive unless you’ve paid for it!
Uganda Airlines has “temporarily” grounded their A330’s for unplanned maintenance, resulting in no services to London Gatwick and Mumbai. When will they return? Nobody knows!
Middle East #airlines are once again re-routing around Iranian airspace, uplifting additional fuel and extending block times for some services, and of course, Saudi airspace once again becomes the alternate routing.
Severe weather disruption is expected in the #US over the next few days, with thousands of flights cancelled. It’s an inevitable part of the yearly challenges facing airlines in the market, and they recover with amazing efficiency, but at times like this, don’t blame the airline – they work miracles on many occasions!
And finally, visitors to the US this coming summer are tracking about 15% down on previous years. Has the market run out of destinations to attract tourists, are prices too high in hotels, are airlines charging too much, or are there any other factors at play?☺️
