A roundup of the latest aviation news…

Including AirAsia X's new London - Bahrain service, American Airlines potential relaunch for Naples, Florida, and its a "NO" from the Nigerian Government when it comes to a new national airline…

News from Nigeria, where, apparently, the Nigerian Government has decided not to move forward with a new National Airline. Shame really because that project was always a great spectator sport.

AirAsia X has once again announced its London service via Bahrain. Good to see them trying once again, and Gatwick should prove a better bet than the previous attempts at Stansted. The key issue will be the cost of fuel, but that seems to be falling once again, although things change quickly, as we know.

Whilst the price of fuel may be falling, journalists seem surprised that air fares are not falling. Since it’s the peak weeks for travel, why is that a surprise?

And here’s a quirky one. American Airlines is interested in relaunching services to Naples, Florida, after a 25- year gap, but airport rules insist on aircraft weighing no more than 75,000 lbs, which makes aircraft choices limited.

Are there many airports with such restrictions around the world?
