Record Profits, Fleet Moves, and Power Struggles: Aviation Giants Press Ahead While Newark Falters

Posting exceptional results, IAG subsequently confirmed a series of wide-bodied orders for the three legacy carriers, mainly fleet replacement, but it will be interesting to see if any new long-haul markets emerge in the coming years. Not to be outdone, Emirates Group announced another record profit for 2024 - every year is a record for Emirates!

There are challenging times at Newark as United Airlines drops some frequencies to maintain schedule integrity, while a series of power outages in recent weeks have left ATC scrambling to connect with traffic. Why wasn’t an investment made in the infrastructure before the latest approved spending?

Delta Air Lines and Korean Air’s joint investment in WestJet is an interesting development. Canadian aviation is not the most profitable industry, so it's surely all about maximising connectivity, and any connecting support for their Calgary service would be helpful for sure.
